The experience begins in the warm room, which is heated by a continuous flow of hot, dry air. This room allows your body to warm up gently and helps you acclimatize to the heat. You can lay on a large, heated marble platform called a “göbek taşı,” which radiates heat from the floor. It’s common to spend about 10 to 15 minutes here, relaxing and sweating out impurities.
Next, you move to the hot room, which is similar to a steam room and much hotter than the warm room. Here, you continue to sweat, and your skin’s pores open up even more. An attendant, known as a “tellak” (for men) or “natır” (for women), may then join you to administer a scrub with a “kese,” a coarse bath glove. After the scrub, you are washed with soap and water. The attendant typically uses a large, soapy bag that is squeezed over you, creating a cloud of bubbles. This soapy wash is thorough and refreshing, followed by a rinse with clean, warm water.
